Trajan's two Dacian Wars (101–106 AD) ended with the conquest of Dacia and the fall of Sarmizegetusa. Roman success rested on engineering — roads, bridges and fortified camps — that let the legions master hostile mountain terrain, all commemorated on Trajan's Column.
